So it was refreshing to take an evening and catch a preview of the ironically-titled “Slow News Day” premiering at this year’s Capital Fringe Festival. TV-MA joins 5-6-7-8 in this off-the-wall look at a TV news station and its crazy employees.

So what did I think of the show? I laughed out loud. Honestly. And not just because they used my comical suggestions in the show; although that was pretty awesome. This year they’ve upped the ante with sound effects *ooooooh, aaaaaaah* and costumes. From the interns to the stage manager to the reporters and the anchors, each cast member had a unique personality and contributed to the show.

Avoid the Washington heat, humidity, and save yourself the sunburn- check out “Slow News Day” at this year’s Fringe Fest. It’s doctor-recommended and Flax-approved. J

Flax AfterParty: Things That Happen in Attics

Last weekend I gathered with my fellow comedy-goers to the Comedy Spot in Ballston to see the 5678 show, “Things That Happen In Attics” with featured host, Min Cho and opening act, Stuart and Chris: Fear of Love.

I knew immediately I would enjoy the show when my roommate became part of the opening act, being one of the two girls chosen to answer a series of questions pertaining to their relationships with men. Each game was funnier than the last. One skit in particular, involving the troupe, was about an older couple moving to Florida. The critical older couple, Tommy and Pam, let’s face it, reminded me of my own grandparents (minus the living in Florida part). Amy B. and Ryan played the couple’s children, Amy being the golden child and Ryan struggling with proving his identity to his disapproving father (that’s my g-rated summary, haha). Amy K. is the friend stuck in the middle of this mess!

I laughed so hard, I cried. And because of that I had to run home and go freshen up my makeup.

See you at the next show!

Flax

P-Nut After Party: Artomatic

Ok the Artomatic show was a nice change in scenery and pace. It felt like a Zoolander Walk off meets improv. Even David Bowie was there hahahaha.

The actual show I was late for but it was easy to find just follow the laughter and you knew you were there. I was happy to see that all the seats were taken and there was a crowd around them so i knew they were on point today. They finished strong and i think Gillis actually ripped off his underwear. I still have it!

And that's how the nut lays it on ya.

P-Nut AfterParty: The Next Big Show

ok so I don't know what is funnier that fact that I am blogging or the 5-6-7-8 show.....

The combination of short and long comedy was AWESOME. I love the fact that not only do they do amazing thing with Skittles but they bring all the skits together some how. No matter how random the suggestions. They all seem to fit together like some amazing 20 flavor cake ummmmmm I like cake oh with some ice cream. Yea it fits like that.

I brought 12 friends to the show and none of them had a bad time, and I have some asshole friends( by asshole I mean fun and loud friends none of them are actually mean people) that are very hard to please.

I had the pleasure to pay for 2 show I went to the early on Friday and the late on Saturday. The were both hilarious and different, very refreshing to all the bland entertainment these days. The only things the same were the people on the stage and that's what makes it happen. They make it look so easy I think I could do it. Each and everyone has there own unique style and the all add to the whole or hole how ever you want to look at it. I personally like hole. And that is how the nut puts it on ya!

P-Nut

Flax AfterParty: The Next Big Show

I like to consider myself an improv “connoisseur”, if you will. I’ve seen many improv shows: live, on TV, or even just at a bad frat party. Therefore, when I was invited to check out the sold-out 5-6-7-8 show at the DC Improv, I jumped at the chance- literally. I jumped out of my seat at the Passover Seder table and rushed downtown.

The beauty of improv in an intimate venue is that the audience doesn’t just interject a few suggestions- they are practically in the show. We were fortunate enough to be with somewhat of a rowdy, however hilarious crowd. 5-6-7-8 did an awesome job of playing off of it! I never thought I would laugh so hard at Skittles jokes.

So if you have the opportunity to check out 5-6-7-8 at any of their other shows, I encourage you to do so. Plus, I’ll be there, and I’m a cute brunette usually seated towards the front.

Signing off for now,

Flax
